Luz Maria Lemus was born in Mexico City and has been living in the United States for eight years. She is proud to say to she became an American citizen in May 2008.
Mrs. Lemus has been married to her husband Carlos for more than 21 years and they have a son who attends middle school here at St Joseph's. The Lemus family is also members of St. Joseph's Church.
Mrs. Lemus received her elementary and middle school education at the Sacred Heart Catholic School, Mexico City. She attended high school at another private school. After high school, Mrs. Lemus had the opportunity to travel to Europe and lived in England for more than a year. It was in England where she first learned to speak English. She also experienced many other cultures on her travels that year.
Mrs. Lemus studied Science of Education at the Universidad Panamericana. After those years, she worked at different educational institutions, attended various seminars and trainings, took art classes and did private tutoring.
In 2000, the Lemus family moved to Lakeland, Florida, where Mrs. Lemus worked as an instructional assistant at another Catholic school (Resurrection). Mrs. Lemus is St. Joseph's Spanish teacher for grades PK - 5th grade. She is also tutoring at Polk Community College, with certification by the NTA and teaching Spanish at the Corporate College (CEV).
This is Mrs. Lemus' fifth year here at St Joseph's Academy and she feels very blessed to belong in this wonderful community and have the opportunity to teach Spanish and cultural awareness.
