SJS ALUM ATTENDING JUILLIARD
Robert Fleitz, a 16-year old pianist and SJA alumnus, who just completed his sophomore year at the Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, has been accepted to the prestigious Pre-College Division of the Juilliard School at Lincoln Center in Manhattan. Juilliard's Pre-College provides the highest level of artistic training for students not yet in college. Alumni of the Pre-College Division include such notable musicians as cellist Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Midori, composer Marvin Hamlisch and members of the 5 Browns.
Robert will be relocating to New York during the school year to attend the school. He will be studying piano with renowned Juilliard professor Julian Martin and has received a $3000 scholarship toward the school's tuition. Robert was accepted based on two rounds of auditions, the second of which was a live audition at Juilliard in May.
Robert began studying piano at the age of four with his father, Patrick Fleitz, Director of Music at St. Joseph's and member of the FSC music faculty. For the past two years, he has been studying with concert pianist Ching-Wen Hsiao. He has also studied with Marie Hasse and Naomi Niskala. This summer, Robert is studying with Julian Martin at the Bowdoin Festival in Maine, and will follow that with a trip to the Aspen Festival in Colorado, studying with Veda Kaplinsky of the Juilliard School.
Congratulations Robert!!!
